John Ryan – Baseball Stats

Baseball stats run in cycles and there is one that I strongly believe is bottoming out and will serve you well to wager on this team over the next two weeks. The Boston Red Sox have five starting players batting under .200 entering tonight’s game with Anaheim. The last time the Red Sox had five starters this late in the season was September 1951. That lineup was top-heavy led by Ted Williams, who batted .319 for the season and Joe Pesky, who batted .313 for the season. The current Boston lineup is not top-heavy and all nine players are strong hitting players. I strongly believe that the Red Sox may be one of the most under valued teams in MLB spanning the past 10 seasons.

John Ryan – Ryan’s Rant

Will the Boston Red Sox make the playoffs? Can they overcome two teams within their own division? I think the answer is yes and if they do it will go down as one of the most resilient teams in BoSox history. The dominant reason i think this attributed to the fact that this is the most healthy they have been all season and a team down in Philadelphia essentially doing the same. Utley came back last night and Howard perhaps next week and they are just two games behind Nl East leader Braves. Now the BoSox are in a similar position. They two games remaining agains the depleted Angels then host Toronto for three and then Seattle for three games before having the big show down at Tampa. If you like looking for extended winning streaks then Boston may be the team for you over the next 10 days.
